Restricted Code is a five-piece band from Glasgow playing original, intelligent music true to their New Wave roots. What do they sound like? Well, stylistically others have compared them to Talking Heads, David Bowie and Roxy Music. Live, they always deliver a knock-out set.
Originally recording and touring in the post-punk era, the band was signed to one of the hippest indie labels, pop:aural. They also recorded a John Peel session and toured extensively, opening for acts like The Human League in the UK and Europe, and on a double-bill UK-wide tour with label-mates The Fire Engines. Recently the band was featured on Cherry Records ‘Big Gold Dream’ compilation of the best of Scottish independent music, and was featured extensively in the epic book, Hungry Beat, covering the Scottish music scene. Their songs continue to be played on radio around the world.
All of the original members of the Codes are in the re-formed band. They play the best of their 1980s recordings, but this is not a revival band: new material forms the bulk of their shows. Released in 2020, their E.P. ‘I Cot Lost’ has picked up extensive radio airplay and critical acclaim. New recordings were completed in autumn 2023.
The band is actively engaged with their fans via this website and their Social Media channels, and of course through their network of fans and associates in the Scottish music scene.
Highly competent musicians, Restricted Code has extensive studio and live experience, playing venues from intimate, small clubs to some of the biggest stages in the world like the Hammersmith Odeon. The band is guaranteed to deliver on songs, sounds, and attracting a discerning audience.
