Restricted Code is a five-piece band from Glasgow playing original, intelligent music true to their New Wave roots. What do they sound like? Well, stylistically others have compared them to Talking Heads, David Bowie and Roxy Music, but the band has a sound all of their own. Their 2025 album, Chasing Shadows, was released on the Last Night from Glasgow label to great critical acclaim. reaching number 13 in the Official Music Charts.
Originally recording and touring in the 1980s, all of the original members of the Codes are in the re-formed band. But this is not a revival act: new material forms the bulk of their shows. Released in 2020, their four track E.P., ‘I Cot Lost’, picked up extensive radio airplay and double A-side singles were released in 2023 and 2024. In November 2025 the Last Night From Glasgow record label released their long-awaited album, Chasing Shadows, which charted and received rave reviews.
In the 1980s the band was signed to one of the hippest indie labels, pop:aural. They also recorded a John Peel session and toured extensively, opening for acts like The Human League in the UK and Europe, and on a double-bill UK-wide tour with label-mates The Fire Engines. Recently the band was featured on Cherry Records ‘Big Gold Dream’ compilation of the best of Scottish independent music, and was featured extensively in the epic book, Hungry Beat, covering the Scottish music scene. Their songs continue to be played on radio around the world.
The band always delivers a knock-out set, the tour to promote Chasing Shadows being praised by fans: “Fantastic night! You were on top form, we loved the gig!”, “Great night – storming finish!”. They are actively engaged with their fans via this website and their Social Media channels, and of course through their network of fans and associates in the Scottish music scene.
Highly competent musicians, Restricted Code has extensive studio and live experience, playing venues from intimate, small clubs to some of the biggest stages in the world like the Hammersmith Odeon. The band is guaranteed to deliver on songs, sounds, and attracting a discerning audience.
